Darley Talbot Randall, 86, passed peacefully on August 3rd, 2021, surrounded by his loving family and his Boston Terrier “Canaan” in Marblehead, MA.
Darley, known affectionately as “Jolly” (Jolie), a nickname given to him by a French nanny, was born in New York City to Darley Randall “Sir” and Grace Helen Talbot “Pooh,” on December 7th, 1934. Darley grew up on a farm in Woodbury, Long Island, and was the middle child of two sisters, both of whom are deceased. He graduated from Milton Academy and received his bachelor’s degree from Yale University.
Darley is survived by his loving wife, Esther Mayo Randall (Pinny), and his children Zene Randall Morales and her husband, Henner; Talbot Randall Fall and her husband, Adam; Frederic Breed Randall and his wife, Jacqueline. Jolly is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Darley Randall, Anna Fall, Lydia Fall, Preston Fall, Emery Randall, Hayden Randall and Sadie Randall. Darley is preceded by his two sons Darley Talbot Randall, Jr., and David Herrick Randall.
After graduating from Yale, Darley enlisted in the U.S.Army and lived in Munich, Germany, working in the field of intelligence. Following his duty in the service, Darley joined Fiduciary Trust and took over as Director of Research for 35 years. Darley and Pinny raised their family in Wilson Point, CT, and spent many fond years vacationing at their weekend home (Birch Hill) in Canaan, NY.
Jolly was an avid historian, patriot, and Yankees fan. He had a love for the garden and his mother’s sculptures.
A private family gathering is planned at their home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fisher House Foundation.
